Pacers’ Sabonis leaving bubble to treat foot injury

NBA

Indiana Pacers All-Star forward Domantas Sabonis is leaving the NBA bubble in Orlando, Florida, to receive medical treatment for plantar fasciitis in his left foot, the team announced Friday.

Sabonis, who has been attempting to play through the injury, hopes to eventually rejoin the team in Orlando, but he could miss the rest of the season, sources told ESPN.

The Pacers could lose their two best players — Sabonis and Victor Oladipo — before the team’s restart next week. Oladipo still might opt out of the season, although he has been participating in practices and played in the Pacers’ first scrimmage victory over Portland on Thursday.

Sabonis, 24, was chosen for his first NBA All-Star Game this season. He signed a four-year, $75 million contract extension that will begin at the start of next season.

Sabonis has averaged 18.5 points, 12.4 rebounds and five assists this season for Indiana.
