Rockets’ Westbrook returns to practice, ‘thankful’

NBA

Russell Westbrook has cleared the NBA’s quarantine protocol and will practice with the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, a source told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

Westbrook announced last week that he had tested positive for COVID-19 before the Rockets’ departure for Orlando, Florida, writing on social media July 13 that he was “feeling well” and quarantined.

He traveled to Orlando on Monday to rejoin the team, coach Mike D’Antoni said.

Westbrook had to test negative for the coronavirus twice before being cleared to travel to the NBA’s campus, according to the league’s guidelines. He was required to quarantine in his hotel room for two days before being allowed to join the Rockets for practice and other team activities.

D’Antoni said Monday that Wesbrook probably would not participate in Houston’s scrimmage Friday against the Toronto Raptors.
