Miami Heat sharpshooter Duncan Robinson broke multiple single-season 3-point records Friday night. And with 19 games left to play in the regular season, he’s on pace to shatter them.
Robinson went 8-for-14 from deep against the New Orleans Pelicans, increasing his total 3s made to 233. That’s the most in Heat franchise history (Wayne Ellington, 227), the most by an undrafted player (Damon Jones, 225) and the most by any player in either of his first two NBA seasons (Kyle Korver, 226).
Robinson finished with 24 points to go with five rebounds and four assists, but the Heat lost 110-104. All 14 of his field goal attempts came from 3-point range.
“You want to do it in a win first and foremost. I am disappointed in that,” Robinson said of his 3-point success coming in a loss. “Hopefully this is a game we learn from.”
Robinson, 25, is shooting 44.9% from 3 on 8.2 attempts per game. He’s now on pace to hit more than 300 3s this season, a feat accomplished only by Stephen Curry and James Harden.
Robinson played his freshman season in college at Division III Williams College before leaving for Michigan. He went undrafted in the 2018 draft and signed a summer-league deal with the Heat.
After playing in only 15 NBA games and hitting just 10 3s last season, Robinson worked his way into the likely playoff-bound Heat’s starting lineup this season. The increase of 223 3s from season-to-season is tied with George McCould (1994-96) for the largest in NBA history.
“It has been a journey, and this season has been a journey, and I am certainly humbled to be in the position that I am in,” Robinson said. “I appreciate everything coming my way, and I just want to keep it rolling and continue to impact winning.”
