Doncic (ankle) says he’s ready to return vs. Kings

NBA

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic declared himself ready to return after practicing Tuesday.

Doncic, who has missed the past seven games because of a sprained right ankle suffered Jan. 30, said he plans to play in Wednesday’s home game against the Sacramento Kings.

“I’m ready,” Doncic told reporters. “I’m just excited to be back out there and play basketball.”

Doncic, an All-Star starter in his second season, has missed a total of 11 games due to right ankle sprains. Both were suffered when he stepped on a defender’s foot while driving to the basket — the first in the opening minutes of a Dec. 14 loss to the Miami Heat and the second during practice.

Doncic said this sprain was “a little bit worse, but not much different.”

The Mavs have gone 5-6 in games missed by Doncic, who averages 28.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game.
