Finn Russell has been axed by Scotland ahead of their Six Nations opener against Ireland on Feb. 1 due to disciplinary reasons.

In a statement released on Thursday, Scottish Rugby said: “Stand-off Finn Russell will play no further part in preparations for Scotland’s Six Nations opener against Ireland, having been disciplined for a breach of team protocol during the week’s camp in Edinburgh.”

The statement added Russell, 27, has returned to his club, French side Racing 92.

Adam Hastings is the most likely player in Gregor Towsend’s squad to start in Russell’s place.

It is not yet clear whether Russell will only be absent for the Ireland clash or for his team’s entire Six Nations campaign.
