The Los Angeles Lakers are extending the contract of Rob Pelinka, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne.
Pelinka is also adding vice president of basketball operations to his general manager title, the Lakers announced Friday.
Pelinka agreed to a five-year contract upon his hiring in 2017 and gets the extension and promotion on the heels of acquiring LeBron James and Anthony Davis in back-to-back offseasons.
“I’m extremely pleased with the work Rob has done in order to put this franchise in a position for success,” Lakers owner Jeanie Buss said in a statement announcing Pelinka’s promotion. “His strong leadership skills, as well as his commitment to building a winning culture, both on and off the court, have brought us one step closer to being a championship-caliber team and I look forward to our continued work together.”
The Lakers enter Friday’s action with the best record in the West.
