Askren, Maia make weight for Singapore bout

All 22 fighters scheduled to compete at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Singapore have successfully made weight, including welterweight headliners Ben Askren and Demian Maia.

Askren (19-1) weighed in at 170.5 pounds, while Maia (27-9) hit the welterweight limit of 171 pounds. That bout will headline the event, which will take place at Singapore Indoor Stadium and air on ESPN+.

Askren, 35, is looking to bounce back from the first loss of his career. He suffered a five-second knockout defeat to Jorge Masvidal in July. It was the fastest knockout in UFC history.

Maia, 41, has openly discussed retirement in the near future, but has recently proved he has something left with wins over Anthony Rocco Martin and Lyman Good.

The matchup will showcase two of the most dominant grapplers in the UFC. Maia is a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, while Askren is a former U.S. Olympic wrestler.

In the co-main event, Michael Johnson (156 pounds) returns to lightweight for the first time since 2017 to face Stevie Ray (156 pounds).
