The Chicago Cubs are hiring David Ross as their next manager, sources told ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
Sources said the Cubs will announce Ross’ hire Thursday.
Ross returns to the team he helped win the 2016 World Series — during which he hit a key home run in Game 7 — and end a 108-year title drought.
This will be Ross’ first managerial experience after a 15-year MLB career that ended following the Cubs’ World Series win.
After the Cubs parted with manager Joe Maddon on the last day of the 2019 regular season, Ross publicly expressed interest in taking over, calling it one of the best jobs in baseball.
The 42-year-old Ross also won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox and played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves.
Since his retirement, Ross has served as an ESPN baseball analyst. He had also served as a Cubs special assistant to baseball operations.
