The sixth edition of the West Africa Football Union Cup of Nations kicks off in Thies, Senegal, on Saturday, with 15 of the region’s sides plus guests Morocco contesting the two-week competition.
The tournament kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 28, with home team Senegal playing Guinea-Buissau before Burkina Faso face off against Mauritania.
Ghana are the most successful team in the tournament’s history, having won the past two editions in 2013 and 2017, both on home soil. Nigeria and Togo had won the previous two tournaments, in 2010 and 2011 respectively, after the first edition in 2002 was cancelled because of civil war in the host nation, Ivory Coast.
