Sources: 76ers, Simmons open extension talks

NBA

The Philadelphia 76ers have started discussions with agent Rich Paul on a contract extension for All-Star guard Ben Simmons, league sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Simmons, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 draft, earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2018 after sitting out a year with a broken right foot.

Simmons, 22, averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists last season for the Sixers, who lost to eventual NBA champion Toronto in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Also on Sunday, the 76ers agreed to bring back free-agent forward Tobias Harris on a five-year, $180 million deal.
