Nats’ Scherzer breaks nose during bunting drill

MLB

WASHINGTON — Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer suffered a broken nose Tuesday when he took a ball off the face during a bunting drill.

He underwent a CAT scan that was negative, according to the team.

Scherzer was scheduled to pitch Game 2 in Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Phillies. His status for that start is now to be determined, the Nationals said.

Scherzer is 5-5 with a 2.81 ERA.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
