Donald Aaron, the husband of UFC fighter Andrea Lee, was apprehended recently following nine months on the run, ESPN confirmed with law enforcement officials Friday. Aaron has been wanted by police since last August on charges of domestic battery abuse and false imprisonment.
According to Shreveport (Louisiana) Police Department spokesperson Christina Curtis, Aaron was arrested in Upshur County, Texas, on May 24 after a traffic stop for allegedly speeding in a school zone and having an illegal amount of marijuana in his possession. Aaron, 43, was extradited to Caddo Parish, Louisiana, to face charges of failure to appear in court and domestic battery, Curtis said. He was booked into Caddo Correctional Center on Wednesday and released on $1,700 bond that same day, according to a jail spokesperson. A court date has not been set.
Last August, Shreveport police issued an arrest warrant for Aaron after he allegedly attacked Lee at their home. Aaron was accused of choking Lee and threatening to put a cigarette out on her arm. Shreveport police had been seeking Aaron since then, suspecting that he was hiding out in Georgia.
Lee declined comment on Aaron’s arrest via her team. Aaron was also Lee’s MMA coach.
Aaron first made headlines last year when photos surfaced of his Nazi tattoos. Lee defended him at the time, saying he got them in prison and was a changed man.
In 2009, Aaron, a former police officer, was found guilty of negligent homicide in the shooting death of an unarmed African American man, Ronald Jamison.
