Greinke exits in eighth with abdominal tightness

MLB

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zack Greinke was removed in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with abdominal tightness. He is scheduled for an MRI on Friday, manager Torey Lovullo said after the game.

Greinke was rolling before exiting the game. He allowed just four hits and no runs in 7 2/3 innings pitched. The Diamondbacks went on to win 11-1, and Greinke got the win to improve to 6-1 this season.

Greinke has allowed one or fewer runs in five of his last six starts and has a 2.78 ERA this season. He finished Wednesday’s game with five strikeouts, just three shy of 2,500 for his career. He would become 5th active pitcher to hit 2,500 K’s, joining CC Sabathia, Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer and Felix Hernandez.
