England will be without Chris Ashton for their Six Nations clash against Wales on Saturday due to a minor calf injury, the Rugby Football Union said on Sunday.

The winger, who has scored 20 tries in 44 international games, started England’s win over France last week and made an appearance from the bench against Ireland on the opening weekend.

Ashton will return to his club, Sale Sharks, for treatment and could return for England’s home games against Italy and Scotland.

Head coach Eddie Jones has named a squad of 33 players who will prepare for the Wales match, which sees the tournament’s two unbeaten sides go head to head in Cardiff.

Earlier this week prop Mako Vunipola was ruled out of the remainder of the Six Nations with an ankle injury while Maro Itoje remains unavailable due to a knee injury.
