New York Giants safety Landon Collins needs season-ending shoulder surgery and will be placed on injured reserve, sources told ESPN’s Josina Anderson on Wednesday.
Giants coach Pat Shurmur told reporters that Collins likely would need the surgery but that a final determination had not yet been made.
Shurmur and several Giants players, including Eli Manning, praised Collins for his toughness and leadership Wednesday. He was injured during Sunday’s 30-27 overtime victory against Chicago.
Collins, 24, has a team-leading 96 tackles this season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported last month that the Giants are expected to place their franchise tag on Collins this offseason if they can’t sign the two-time Pro Bowler to a long-term deal.
The Giants (4-8) will visit Washington on Sunday.
