Former South Africa rugby player Naka Drotské is in a stable condition after being shot multiple times during a home invasion on Thursday night.

Drotské and 1995 Rugby World Cup-winning teammate Os du Randt were visiting Drotské’s brother, Tinus, in Kameeldrift, when a group of armed robbers rushed in and began shooting.

Drotské was reportedly shot three times, in the arm and chest. As the former Springboks hooker was being rushed to Montana hospital, they were also involved in a motor vehicle accident, according to some reports.

Cheetahs CEO Harold Verster told Sport24 on Friday that Drotské was in a stable condition following the shooting: “I had a chat with Os this morning. He is OK. He said it was like a war zone with shots going off everywhere … he said it was chaos.

”We’re just totally shocked and we hope that Naka will recover and that Os is okay … they are friends and legends of the region.”

On Friday, SA Rugby also sent its well wishes to Drotské and his family. “Our thoughts are with former Springboks Naka Drotske and Os du Randt and their families,” they said via their Twitter account.

Drotské played 26 Tests for the Springboks, while Du Randt, who was also part of the Boks team that won the 2007 World Cup, was capped on 80 occasions.
