This is a wonderfully literal manifestation of the ‘pushy parent’ phenomenon.

Competitive parents aren’t usually hard to come by at youth football matches, with the tension on the sidelines regularly far more intense than the action on the pitch.

For example, take this wonderfully literal manifestation of the “pushy parent” phenomenon from a bloke stood behind the goal during the recent Welsh youth league game between the under-8s teams of Bow Street Magpies and CPD Llanilar.

The goalkeeper got down to the first shot well (with a little manual assistance) but just wasn’t able to recover and block the follow-up. His concentration levels may need a little work too.

Credit to Chris Wilkins, who was fortunate enough to capture the magic on video, and who gave assurance on Twitter that the man was the goalkeeper’s dad.

Incredible stuff.
