Ghana defender Daniel Amartey will be out for four months, Leicester City boss Claude Puel has confirmed.

Amartey has undergone surgery after badly twisting his ankle in Leicester City’s 1-1 draw against West Ham United last week.

There were fears Amartey would be out for the rest of the season but Puel says he will now be out for four months after surgery.

“It was a success, but he will not be available normally for four months,” Puel told the press.

“I was with sadness after the game to Daniel because he sacrificed himself for the team. We lost Daniel, but of course, after what’s happened, its another thing, another grief.”

The 23-year old had established himself at Leicester City side this season, starting seven of their ten Premier League games to date.

Amartey, a Ghana regular, will also miss the country’s crunch Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia this month, but should be back in time for the final qualifier against Kenya in March and the tournament itself in June if the Black Stars qualify.
