Gamecocks expect QB Bentley to start vs. Aggies

NCAAF

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina coach Will Muschamp says injured quarterback Jake Bentley is expected to start against No. 22 Texas A&M this week.

Bentley missed last Saturday’s 37-35 win over Missouri with a left knee injury suffered a week earlier at Kentucky. Bentley was cleared to play against the Tigers, but Muschamp worried the injury affected the junior’s mobility and chose to go with backup Michael Scarnecchia.

Scarnecchia threw for three touchdowns and led the Gamecocks (3-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) on a game-winning driving with less than two minutes to go to defeat Missouri.

Muschamp said Tuesday that Bentley has moved well at practice so far this week. Unless there’s a setback, the coach is confident Bentley will be ready to play versus the Aggies.

Bentley expects to wear a knee brace Saturday against Texas A&M (4-2, 2-1).
