Ireland veterans Peter O’Mahony, Cian Healy and Conor Murray have confirmed they will all retire from international rugby after this year’s Six Nations.
While O’Mahony and Healy — Ireland’s most capped player — will step away from club and country at the end of the club season, Murray will head overseas in the summer.
All three players have won over 100 caps for Ireland and won five Six Nations titles including two Grand Slams. Ireland are still in with a chance of winning the Grand Slam this year with two rounds to play.
O’Mahony played for the British & Irish Lions in 2017, captaining them in the first Test against New Zealand.
Healy toured with the Lions in 2013, while Murray has played eight Tests for the side across the 2013, 2017 and 2021 tours.
Interim Ireland head coach Simon Easterby praised the trio’s contribution to the Irish side over their long careers.
“They have each played a huge role in the success of Irish Rugby over the course of their careers and they continue to inspire their teammates around them,” Easterby said.
“Watching how openly they engage with players in their own position and continue to add value around the set-up is testament to their collective character and they are also adding real value on the pitch.
“Knowing each of the guys, they will be focused on achieving even more success this season and we are determined as a group to end their careers with Ireland on a high over these last two rounds.”
