Lewis Hamilton has returned to testing duties for Ferrari in a Pirelli tyre test at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.
Hamilton’s blockbuster move to Ferrari has dominated off-season headlines.
Last week the seven-time world champion crashed during a private three-day test at the same circuit, while he and new teammate Charles Leclerc were driving the team’s 2023 car. Hamilton was not hurt in the crash.
This week the track at the circuit is being overseen by F1 tyre supplier Pirelli as part of a test of the tyres set to be introduced for the new cars in 2026.
Hamilton and Leclerc are alternating duties either side of lunch on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5 in a version of Ferrari’s 2024 car — which almost won the constructors’ championship — modified to accommodate the smaller tyres.
Reigning constructors’ champions McLaren are also at the circuit conducting the same test.
Hamilton started the team’s running on Tuesday.
Hamilton has been busy in the off-season with Ferrari, conducting a short filming day at the team’s Fiorano test circuit in January before the Barcelona test, which was conducted under the 1000km ‘Testing of a Previous Car’ provision in the rules.
His first taste of Ferrari’s car for the 2025 season will be on Feb. 19, when the team officially launches its car at its Fiorano race track in Italy.
Hamilton and Leclerc will then take part in preseason testing in Bahrain between Feb. 26-28.
The opening race of the season is the Australian Grand Prix on March 18.
