Nuggets top Suns as Murray sits with ankle sprain

NBA

Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray will not play against the visiting Phoenix Suns on Monday night due to a sprained ankle, coach Michael Malone announced in his pregame availability.

Malone said Murray sustained the injury in Sunday’s overtime win at New Orleans and is hopeful Murray will be able to go when Denver plays at Phoenix on Wednesday night.

Murray, 27, has averaged 19.1 points, 6.1 assists, 4.1 rebounds and a career-high 1.6 steals in 21 games (all starts) this season. He missed the entire 2021-22 season with an ACL tear and played in 59 games last year while battling an ankle sprain and other injuries.

Phoenix is without guards Devin Booker (left groin soreness) and Grayson Allen (concussion protocol) for Monday’s game. Coach Mike Budenholzer did not know if either will be able to play Wednesday night.
