Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is going to be out for the rest of the year, her agent said Thursday.
Holm underwent successful knee surgery Wednesday to repair an injured meniscus and will need approximately four weeks of recovery, agent Lenny Fresquez said. She is hoping to return to action in early 2019.
This marked the first knee surgery of her 16-year professional combat sports career.
Holm, who is coming off a win over Megan Anderson at 145 pounds in June, is hoping to return against Amanda Nunes in the first quarter of 2019 to compete for the 135-pound belt, Fresquez said.
Nunes fights Cris “Cyborg” Justino for the 145-pound belt on Dec. 29.
The 36-year-old Holm is 12-4 overall and 5-4 in the UFC.
