Strawweight world titlist Wanheng Menayothin moved to 51-0 — surpassing the 50-0 mark Floyd Mayweather retired with last August — as he won a unanimous decision against Pedro Taduran on Wednesday.
Fighting at home in Nakhon Sawan, Thailand, Menayothin (51-0, 18 KOs), 32, retained his 105-pound world title for the 10th time, winning by scores of 118-108, 117-110 and 115-111.
Menayothin controlled the fight largely with his right hand and knew he was ahead after the fourth and eighth rounds because the WBC’s open scoring system was used. He was ahead 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37 after the fourth round and 79-74, 78-74 and 78-74 when the scores were announced again after the eighth round.
Referee Stephen Blea docked two points from Taduran, one in the eighth round for a low blow and one in the 12th round for a borderline low blow.
Taduran (12-2, 9 KOs), 21, a southpaw boxing outside of his home country of the Philippines for the first time, saw a six-fight winning streak come to an end.
Menayothin has held his title since November 2014 and matched Mayweather’s mark with a fifth-round knockout of mandatory challenger Leroy Estrada in May.
