Sources: Wizards’ Wright expected out 6-8 weeks

NBA

Washington Wizards guard Delon Wright, the team’s best perimeter defender, is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a right hamstring injury, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The Wizards said Wright suffered a Grade 2 strain of his right hamstring during the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s victory against the Detroit Pistons. He played 16 minutes in that game, scoring five points.

The Wizards said Wright’s injury would be reevaluated in approximately three weeks, but the expectation is that Wright could miss nearly two months.

In his eighth season, the 2015 first-round pick had made a significant impact on Washington’s 3-1 start, averaging nearly 23 minutes a game with 6.5 points, 3.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds.

Wright, 30, signed a two-year, $16 million deal as a free agent this summer. He spent last season with the Atlanta Hawks and has had stops with Sacramento, Detroit, Dallas, Memphis and Toronto.
