Pacquiao stops Matthysse for 1st KO since ’09

Boxing

In his return to the ring, Manny Pacquiao defeated Lucas Matthysse via seventh-round technical knockout to claim the WBA welterweight title Saturday night in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The fight was Pacquiao’s first since his controversial unanimous decision loss to Australia’s Sam Horn in July 2017.

Pacquiao dropped Matthysse three times en route to his first win by stoppage since 2009.

Asked who he would like to fight next, Pacquiao didn’t give an answer but said he looked forward to going back to the Philippines to “relax” and celebrate with his countrymen.
