Toss Bangladesh chose to bowl against New Zealand

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan decided to field first against New Zealand on a fresh wicket in the fifth match of the tri-series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Tim Southee stood in as captain for the rested Kane Williamson.

Martin Guptill is slated to bat at No 3 in Williamson’s place, while Adam Milne and Trent Boult were brought back into the line-up in place of Mitchell Santner and Blair Tickner.

The visitors are without Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud, and have brought in Soumya Sarkar, Ebadot Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin. Soumya played his last T20I against Australia in the 2021 T20 World Cup. His return means that this would be the third different opening pair for Bangladesh in this tri-series as they continue to look for the right combination.

Spin played a huge part in New Zealand’s nine-wicket win over Pakistan in the previous game. Spinners Santner, Michael Bracewell and Ish Sodhi shared five wickets for 61 runs, as Pakistan struggled to put up a big score.

New Zealand: 1 Finn Allen, 2 Devon Conway (wk), 3 Martin Guptil, 4 Glenn Phillips, 5 Mark Chapman, 6 James Neesham, 7 Michael Bracewell, 8 Ish Sodhi, 9 Adam Milne, 10 Tim Southee (capt), 11 Trent Boult

Bangladesh: 1 Najmul Hossain Shanto, 2 Soumya Sarkar, 3 Litton Das, 4 Shakib Al Hasan (capt), 5 Afif Hossain, 6 Mosaddek Hossain, 7 Nurul Hasan (wk), 8 Yasir Ali, 9 Mohammad Saifuddin, 10 Ebadot Hossain, 11 Shoriful Islam
