James Rodriguez on bench as Colombia take on England

After resting the majority of their starters against Belgium, ESPN FC’s Steve McManaman says England are poised to go out and win against Colombia.

Colombia have left James Rodriguez on the bench for their World Cup round of 16 match against England on Tuesday, as the star midfielder battles to overcome an injury.

The 26-year-old playmaker had been a doubt after picking up a muscular problem during Thursday’s 1-0 win over Senegal. He has not trained since the game, though coach said a day earlier that he was hopeful James would play some part against England.

Dele Alli is back in England’s line-up after missing two games with an injury as coach Gareth Southgate reverts to the lineup which beat Tunisia 2-1 in England’s opening group game.

Southgate has made eight changes to the lineup that lost the last game to Belgium. Midfielder Fabian Delph is skipping the game because he has traveled home to England to be with his wife for the birth of the couple’s baby.

England: Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Harry Maguire, Jesse Lingard, Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Kieran Trippier, Ashley Young, Dele Alli
