Boxing world reacts to Edgar Berlanga’s Mike Tyson-esque bite moment on Twitter

Edgar Berlanga defeated Alexis Angulo on Saturday by unanimous decision to stay unbeaten, in the main event of a Top Rank card at the Hulu Theater inside Madison Square Garden in New York, but the fight will be remembered for a different reason.

In Round 7, Berlanga tried to bite Angulo on the left shoulder and then his left ear. The referee warned Angulo for punching behind the head, but didn’t reprimand Berlanga.

“He was throwing elbows. I was about to do a Mike Tyson on him,” Berlanga said when asked about the incident in the post-fight interview. “He kept throwing his elbows, and I didn’t want to get cut.”

The incident was similar to Mike Tyson biting Evander Holyfield in their rematch in 1997, and the boxing world reacted to it.
