Jos Buttler is to captain England in the second ODI of the Royal London series after Eoin Morgan was forced to withdraw having suffered a back spasm. Buttler has previously captained England in three ODIs in Bangladesh.
Morgan’s place in the side was taken by Sam Billings, but England were otherwise unchanged from the team that won at The Oval.
Australia won the toss in Cardiff, which was slightly delayed by rain, and chose to bowl first. They are without Billy Stanlake, who bowled nicely in taking 2 for 44 in the first ODI, due to a toe injury, while the seam-bowling allrounder Michael Neser has been dropped in favour of D’Arcy Short, who makes his ODI debut, and is expected to open the batting.
Aaron Finch is set to drop down the order and bat at No. 6, while Jhye Richardson comes into the side for Stanlake.
Morgan had been managing some back pain for a while but suffered a spasm 10 minutes before the toss when attempting to get up from a chair. He netted on Friday, but did not take part in the pre-game football.
England, who have won six of the last seven ODIs between the sides, won the first game of the series by three wickets. Buttler said England had wanted to bat first and set a target, after previous experience of the Cardiff pitch becoming slower.
