De Jong rescues point in spiteful Barcelona derby

Football

Luuk de Jong scored a last-gasp goal as Barcelona 2-2 escaped with a draw at Espanyol in a derby thriller.

De Jong’s strike in stoppage time denied Espanyol a home win over Barca since moving to the RCDE Stadium in 2009.

Gavi gave Barcelona an early lead two minutes into the match before Sergi Darder equalised the affair in the 40th minute.

Raul de Tomas seemingly clinched the match in the 64th minute, before Dutch star De Jong broke the hosts’ hearts with a goal to share the spoils.
