Serie A game ppd. with Fiorentina GM in hospital

Fiorentina‘s Serie A match against Atalanta on Sunday has been postponed, with Italian media reporting that general manager Joe Barone was rushed to hospital just a few hours before kickoff.

News agency Ansa has reported that Barone was taken to a hospital in Milan after falling ill at the team hotel in nearby Bergamo.

The match was scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. local time but Fiorentina requested it be postponed and the Italian league confirmed it would be played at a later date yet to be decided.

The postponement comes less than two weeks after the six-year anniversary of the death of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori, who was found dead in his hotel room after suffering cardiac arrest before a match at Udinese.

Barone, who turns 58 on Wednesday, was born in Italy but raised in the United States.
