Team U.S. and Team Europe are facing off in the Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.

Storylines abound, but one stands out of the bunch: America’s 30-year period without a win on European soil. Europe has six consecutive victories outside the U.S. with the Americans’ last win overseas coming September 1993 at The Belfry in Warwickshire, England.

Team U.S. is off to a rough start, with Europe leading 9 ½ – 2 ½ with four more four-ball (best ball) matches to be played Saturday afternoon, followed by 12 singles matches Sunday.

Day 2: Europe widens commanding lead

Viktor Hovland and Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg handed Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka the worst defeat in an 18-hole match in Ryder Cup history, 9 & 7.

Rory McIlroy and England’s Tommy Fleetwood took down Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas 2&1, with McIlroy sinking the winning putt on No. 17. McIlroy moved to 3-0 this year with the win.

U.S. picks up first win

Brian Harman and Max Homa delivered the squad’s first full point of the Ryder Cup with a 4 & 2 victory over Ireland’s Shane Lowry and Austria’s Sepp Straka.
