Baltimore Orioles catcher James McCann landed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a sprained left ankle.

McCann, 33, injured his ankle Saturday sliding into first base and was considered day-to-day, but the Orioles elected to put him on the injured list.

In his first season with Baltimore, McCann is hitting .194 with three homers and seven RBIs in 31 games as Adley Rutschman‘s backup. In 10 seasons with the Detroit Tigers (2014-18), Chicago White Sox (2019-20), New York Mets (2021-22) and Orioles, the 2019 All-Star is a .241 hitter with 81 homers and 323 RBIs.

In a corresponding move, Baltimore called up catcher Jose Godoy from Triple-A Norfolk. The club also designated right-hander Reed Garrett for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot for Godoy.

Godoy, 28, has played in 26 major league games with the Seattle Mariners (2021), Minnesota Twins (2022) and Pittsburgh Pirates (2022), hitting .123 with four RBIs. This season at Triple-A Norfolk and Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre, Godoy is hitting .276 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 18 games.
