The 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend kicked off Friday with the celebrity game and Rising Stars Challenge.
The second-ever NBA HBCU Classic game between Grambling State and Southern opened Saturday’s action. Then, Milwaukee Bucks star Jrue Holiday filled in for injured team captain Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was slated to once again team up with his brothers — Thanasis and Alex — in the skills challenge. The hometown Utah Jazz trio of Jordan Clarkson, Jabari Smith Jr. and Collin Sexton cruised to victory.
Last year’s 3-point contest winner Karl-Anthony Towns retired from All-Star on Saturday so he won’t defend his title, but 2020 3-point contest winner Buddy Hield is in the mix and looks to add another trophy to his collection.
Lastly, Mac McClung, who won a high school dunk contest in 2018, is on the hunt to win at the NBA level.
