Pelicans rule Williamson (hip/back) out vs. Suns

NBA

The New Orleans Pelicans ruled forward Zion Williamson out for the Friday game at Phoenix.

Williamson had been listed as a game-time decision with a right posterior hip/lower back contusion suffered Sunday in the overtime loss to the Utah Jazz.

After missing the Tuesday game against the Dallas Mavericks, Williamson went through portions of practice Thursday and said he was “feeling better.”

The Pelicans are likely eying a return for Williamson on Sunday against the Clippers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Herb Jones, who was questionable with a knee injury and also missed the Tuesday game, was ruled out against the Suns. CJ McCollum, dealing with a finger issue, was in the starting lineup.

Brandon Ingram remains out while in the NBA’s concussion protocol.
