Toss England chose to bowl vs Australia

Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first on a green-tinged Khettarama surface that is expected to have a little in it for the seam bowlers, particularly early on.

Both sides had named their XIs ahead of time. Sri Lanka, who appear to be attempting to build an attack for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year, have included two frontline seamers in their XI, in Dushmantha Chameera and the round-armed Nuwan Thushara. Chamika Karunaratne, the fast-bowling allrounder, is also likely to be a major component of the attack.

On the batting front, they’ve got Pathum Nissanka at the top of the order alongside Danushka Gunathilaka, and Kusal Mendis – who has sometimes opened – batting at No. 4, and keeping wickets.

Australia have three frontline seamers in Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Kane Richardson, with Ashton Agar as the main spin option. Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell are the other major bowling options.

There is a small chance rain may interrupt the match, but at toss time, the skies were largely clear.

Sri Lanka 1 Danushka Gunathilaka, 2 Pathum Nissanka, 3 Charith Asalanka, 4 Kusal Mendis (wk), 5 Bhanuka Rajapaksa, 6 Dasun Shanaka (capt), 7 Wanindu Hasaranga, 8 Chamika Karunaratne, 9 Nuwan Thushara, 10 Dushmantha Chameera, 11 Maheesh Theekshana

Australia 1 Aaron Finch (capt), 2 David Warner, 3 Mitchell Marsh, 4 Glenn Maxwell, 5 Steven Smith, 6 Marcus Stoinis, 7 Matthew Wade (wk), 8 Ashton Agar, 9 Mitchell Starc, 10 Kane Richardson, 11 Josh Hazlewood
