Dodgers place Turner (hamstring) on injured list

MLB

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed third baseman Justin Turner on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring.

The major league-leading Dodgers also activated third baseman Edwin Rios and left-hander Alex Wood from the injured list Tuesday.

Rios was in the Dodgers’ lineup against Arizona on Tuesday night, batting seventh and playing third base in the opener of a six-game homestand.

Turner, 35, injured his hamstring while stealing second base at Texas last Friday. The roster move is retroactive to Saturday, meaning Turner can return Sept. 8.

Turner is batting .282 with two homers and 20 RBIs in 32 games this season. He is in the final year of his contract with the Dodgers.

Rios was batting .279 with three homers in just 29 at-bats over 14 games with the Dodgers before he went down Aug. 17 with a left hamstring injury, missing 13 games. He made his major league debut last season, playing in 28 games for Los Angeles.

Both Turner and Rios have a history of hamstring injuries.

Wood made just one start this season on July 25 before going to the injured list with shoulder inflammation. The veteran is in his second stint with the Dodgers, who signed him to a $4 million deal last winter.

Wood will work out of the bullpen in his return, manager Dave Roberts said. The Dodgers’ rotation appears to be largely set after they traded Ross Stripling to Toronto on Monday, but Wood has been an excellent starter during his career when able to stay healthy.

Roberts also said Walker Buehler will return from the injured list to start against Arizona on Wednesday. Buehler missed only one turn in the rotation with a blister on his throwing hand.
