Exeter Chiefs winger Jack Nowell has been sent from England’s World Cup training camp to undergo further assessment on an ankle injury.

Nowell underwent successful ankle surgery in June after he was forced off the field in a 37-34 defeat to Saracens in the Gallagher Premiership Final earlier that month following a collision with opposing winger Sean Maitland.

The 26-year-old was included in head coach Eddie Jones’ 38-man training camp in Treviso, Italy. The 12-day camp will end this week, with the squad due to return home on Friday.

The England and British & Irish Lions international has made 31 international appearances scoring 60 points.
