Former LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos is on the verge of joining Liga MX giant Club America, ESPN’s John Sutcliffe is reporting.
The MLS club exercised its option to buy out the contract of Mexico international on March 1 and Dos Santos has been searching for a club since, with rumors linking him with moves as far and wide as to Qatar and Brazil.
Dos Santos will be presented as a Club America player in coming days and a video has been prepared by the club, according to the sources.
A source told ESPN FC last month that Dos Santos was close to Club America, but still had to negotiate the full details of finalizing his contract with MLS, although Las Aguilas sporting director Santiago Banos denied negotiations.
Brother Jonathan dos Santos backed a possible move last month during the Gold Cup.
“I don’t know anything, but hopefully,” said Jonathan after Mexico’s 3-1 win over Canada in Denver. “I’ve always said that we are America fans from the cradle and hopefully [Giovani’s move to America] happens.
Forward Oribe Peralta recently left the club to join arch-rival Chivas, with Banos suggesting that Las Aguilas would look for a replacement.
Triple World Cup veteran Dos Santos began his career in Barcelona, before moving to to Tottenham Hotspur. He established himself in Spain with Mallorca and Villarreal, transferring to LA Galaxy in July 2015.
