Golden State Warriors All-Star guard Klay Thompson underwent successful surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles to repair his torn ACL, his agent, Greg Lawrence, told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the procedure at the Kerlan-Jobe Institute.
Thompson is expected to make a full recovery and follow a standard recovery time of five to seven months, though Lawrence emphasized Tuesday that said window is tilted toward the back end of that timetable.
“While we are optimistic on a return as quickly as possible, Klay and the team are committed to taking the necessary time with the process,” Lawrence told ESPN.
Thompson, 29, tore the ACL in his left knee during Game 6 of the NBA Finals when he landed hard on a breakaway dunk attempt in the third quarter. Golden State was leading 83-80 at the time; the Toronto Raptors went on to win 114-110 to finish off a 4-2 series victory and end the Warriors’ two-year run as NBA champions.
Thompson, an unrestricted free agent, announced Monday on his Instagram account that he was staying with Golden State, writing in his caption that “there was never a doubt.”
Thompson’s maximum contract is for five years and worth $190 million, his agent said.
