TOP STORY: Homecoming for Hummels
Mats Hummels could soon be back at Borussia Dortmund if reports of an imminent exit from Bayern Munich are to be believed.
The Mirror writes that Dortmund are closing in on a move for the German centre-back, nearing an agreement for a £27 million fee with Munich.
Hummels is a man who loves a homecoming, having begun his career at Bayern before moving to Dortmund for £4m in 2009 when Jurgen Klopp swooped. He won two Bundesliga titles with the club, and played a key role in their march to the 2013 Champions League final. Then he headed back to Munich for £30m in 2016.
Now, though, with Niko Kovac no longer guaranteeing him a first-team place, Hummels could be off again, to more than familiar ground.
Everton at Man United? Eh?
He boasts an apt name for an aspiring Premier League footballer, and now Gremio’s Everton has admitted that the prospect of playing in England next season is hugely appealing.
Speaking after Brazil’s 3-0 stroll over Bolivia in the Copa America (watch all tournament long on ESPN+) on Friday, Everton set tongues wagging post-match by fanning the flames of speculation linking him with a move from South America to the money-bagged Premier League elite.

And the Mail writes that while the 23-year-old had previously caught the eye of Pep Guardiola with some scintillating displays for Gremio, he’s apparently more interested in playing in the red of United rather than the blue of City.
Everton sauntered onto the pitch with just nine minutes remaining of their Copa America clash, and promptly netted Brazil’s third and final goal against La Verde. He will hope that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stayed up to watch it.
Gomez going, going, gone
West Ham’s chase of Maxi Gomez looks set to end in failure, with the Guardian reporting that the Celta Vigo striker fancies a move to Valencia rather than the least atmospheric stadium in Planet Football.
Manuel Pellegrini has been typically studious in the transfer market so far this summer, recruiting Pablo Fornals of Villareal on Friday. But now West Ham’s hierarchy fear that their quest to bring Gomez to East London will be a fruitless one.
The report suggests that the lure of Champions League football at Valencia is likely to see them snare the Uruguayan. The Hammers have put in a bid for Gomez but Celta Vigo are unimpressed, and apparently using the interest from West Ham to entice others to keep the bidding war going.
Gomez also wants assurances that he will be the club’s first-choice striker, something West Ham have so far been loathe to do, particularly as Marko Arnautovic now looks like staying put and not heading off to Guangzhou Evergrande.

– If there was any doubt that Ryan Fraser would still be a Bournemouth player next season, the club have sought to remove it. They released a statement, picked up by the Sun and others, saying that Fraser is going nowhere: “We look forward to welcoming Ryan back to us next month after a well-earned break, upon which he can focus on having another standout season for AFC Bournemouth.” Read it and weep, Arsenal.
– And finally, in Spain, Marca reports that Real Madrid are happy to offload Lucas Vazquez this summer. Los Blancos would also be happy for Brahim Diaz to disappear on loan.
