Source: 2013 1st-round pick EJ Manuel retires

NFL

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback EJ Manuel has retired from the NFL, a source told ESPN’s Field Yates.

Manuel, a first-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2013, was signed in the offseason to compete for the Chiefs’ backup job.

Manuel, who hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2017, was the only quarterback selected in the first round of the 2013 draft. The Bills selected him 16th overall, and he went on to start 17 games in four seasons for Buffalo.

He signed as a free agent with the Oakland Raiders in 2017 and appeared in two games with one start that season. The Raiders released him before the start of last season.

The Florida State product finishes his NFL career with 3,767 passing yards, 24 touchdowns (20 passing, 4 rushing) and 16 interceptions.
