Indians All-Star Lindor returns from injuries

MLB

CLEVELAND — Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor is back with the team after missing the first 18 games of the season.

He was activated from the injured list prior to Saturday’s doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. He is not in the starting lineup for Game 1, but manager Terry Francona said Lindor will play at shortstop in the second game.

Lindor had been out since spraining an ankle near the end of spring training while he was still recovering from a calf sprain.

To make room on the roster, slugger Hanley Ramirez was designated for assignment.

The Indians went 11-7 without Lindor, a three-time All-Star and 2016 Gold Glove winner for the three-time defending AL Central champions.

Lindor cleared his final medical hurdle during a three-game rehab stay with Triple-A Columbus this week.

Lindor set career-highs with 38 homers and 92 RBIs last season.
