The Philadelphia Union will be searching for their fourth consecutive victory when they visit the Los Angeles Galaxy Saturday night.
The Union are also looking to extend their unbeaten streak to five when they travel to the West Coast.
In their most recent win, a 2-1 victory at home against FC Dallas last Saturday, the Union received the game-winning goal from Alejandro Bedoya in extra time.
Philadelphia opened the season with consecutive losses.
It hasn’t lost since.
The Union actually came back from a 1-0 deficit to oust FC Dallas and extend their winning streak.
“To come from behind is something we haven’t done well in the past,” Union head coach Jim Curtin said. “We’ve been a team that if we get our goal early, for teams chasing us it’s very difficult for them. But when (other) teams get a goal, sit back and counter us, we can kind of lose our way a little bit in the past.”
This upcoming game for the Union will be a daunting task.
“We have no easy task now,” Curtin said. “We have to get on a plane to go to L.A. and deal with Zlatan (Ibrahimovic). It’s going to be a challenge for us.”
The Galaxy, meanwhile, will be looking to extend their winning streak to four.
Daniel Steres and Ibrahimovic each scored less than 10 minutes apart in the second half of what wound up becoming an impressive 2-0 win at Vancouver Whitecaps FC last Friday.
Ibrahimovic has four goals and one assist in three appearances for the Galaxy this season — all of which have resulted in wins.
Despite owning five championships in Major League Soccer, the most of any franchise, the Galaxy have missed the postseason in back-to-back seasons.
“At the end of the year, the front office, the big guys, came in and told us it wasn’t good enough and changes were going to be made, and they did that,” Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham told reporters. “We know as players, when we put on the LA shirt, you better win, and you don’t win, they’re going to ship you out of here. This year, we’ve been busting our butts. We need to turn it around and get back to Galaxy ways.”
