Sexual abuse case against Bibby closed

NBA

Phoenix police have closed their case into sexual abuse allegations against former University of Arizona and NBA player Mike Bibby.

Phoenix police Sgt. Vince Lewis told the Arizona Republic on Thursday that an investigation “did not reveal probable cause to recommend charges against anyone in the case.”

In February, Bibby was fired from his coaching position at Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix after school district officials received a copy of a restraining order a teacher brought against him.

The teacher had accused Bibby of inappropriately touching her in February 2017.

Bibby’s attorney, Don Harris, told the Arizona Republic that the claim against Bibby had been “like a bomb bursting in his head.” Harris said Bibby has received interest from “several universities.”

Bibby played at Shadow Mountain in high school, winning a state championship. He also won a national title at Arizona before going on to a 14-year NBA career with the Vancouver Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
