Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who is heading into the final year of his contract, wants a new deal with the team in place by April 15, sources confirmed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday.
The two sides have had recent contract talks, a source told ESPN’s Dan Graziano. However, sources told Schefter that those talks are not thought to be too far along.
The six-time Pro Bowler, who threw for 3,448 yards and 35 touchdowns last season, is currently scheduled to make $17 million in 2019.
The Seattle Times was the first to report Wilson’s request for a new deal.
The last time Wilson and the Seahawks reached agreement on a contract came on July 31, 2015 — the day Seattle opened training camp.
Wilson’s deadline of April 15 is when the Seahawks are to begin offseason workouts. Plus, he would need to pay for extra insurance beginning on that date if there is no new deal in place.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the highest-paid player at $33.5 million per year.
ESPN’s Brady Henderson contributed to this report.
