Toss Kings XI Punjab chose to field v Mumbai Indians

R Ashwin made one change to their line-up, and chose to chase against Mumbai Indians in the day game in Mohali.

Ashwin backed his team’s record at the ground – they won all three games at the ground last season, but have lost their last four games against Mumbai in Mohali – and said that the breeze in the evening would assist their run-scoring.

The change to the Kings XI side was a forced one, Ashwin said. Legbreak bowler Murugan Ashwin has come in for mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who has an injury. Hardus Viljoen kept his place in the XI, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman continued to stay on the bench.

Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma said that toss was a “good one to lose”. Rohit said that Mumbai wanted to bat anyway – with the sun out – and looked to his bowlers to defend a total, like in their last game in Bengaluru.

“We were going to bat first anyway, a good toss to lose,” he said. “Last game, we batted well, posted a good score and defended, because of our bowling composition. So again, looking to put runs on the board and give the bowlers a good total to defend.”

Mumbai Indians: 1 Rohit Sharma (capt), 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Suryakumar Yadav, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Kieron Pollard, 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Krunal Pandya, 8 Mitchell McClenaghan, 9 Mayank Markande, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Lasith Malinga

Kings XI Punjab: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 KL Rahul (wk), 3 Mayank Agarwal, 4 Sarfaraz Khan, 5 David Miller (wk), 6 Mandeep Singh, 7 Hardus Viljoen, 8 R Ashwin (capt), 9 Mohammed Shami, 10 Murugan Ashwin, 11 Andrew Tye
