The Olyroos have continued on their path to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a 6-0 win over Taiwan in Cambodia.
Fresh off a 6-0 win over Cambodia on Friday night, the Graham Arnold-coached Olyroos were again too strong for their opponents on Sunday.
Western Sydney’s Abraham Majok scored an early brace before Melbourne Victory’s Thomas Deng increased the margin before half-time.
Tass Mourdoukoutas and a Pierce Waring double rounded out the result.
In the other pool match, South Korea defeated Cambodia 6-1 to sit top of the group on goal difference.
The results set up a Tuesday night showdown between Australia’s under-23s and the South Koreans for top spot in the group.
Only the winners of the group are assured of progression to January’s AFC Under-23 Championship in Thailand — the final 16-team qualifying tournament for the Olympics from which only three teams will advance to Tokyo 2020.
The best four second-place teams will also progress to the AFC U23 Championship while the fifth-best second-placed team from the 11 groups will also qualify should Thailand — who have qualified automatically for the tournament as hosts — finish as either Group K winners or runners-up.
Arnold has called up the best players available to him — to the chagrin of some A-League coaches — as he bids to qualify Australia for the Olympics for the first time since Beijing in 2008.
