Former NBA player Mike Bibby is under police investigation after being accused of sexual abuse and harassment from a teacher at the high school where he works as a coach, according to The Arizona Republic.

The Paradise Valley Unified School District confirmed to The Republic that Phoenix police are investigating the allegations against Bibby.

Bibby has denied the accusations through his attorney, Donald Harris.

“I can say with pretty much certainty this alleged incident didn’t happen and that will be shown down the road,” Harris told the Republic. “Michael Bibby did not participate in a sexual assault of any way, shape or form that was alleged by this lady two years ago.”

The Republic also reported that a restraining order, granted this past Friday by the Phoenix Municipal Court, includes the accusations made against Bibby by the teacher at Shadow Mountain High School in Phoenix.

According to the restraining order, the teacher reported the alleged incident to Shadow Mountain’s resource officer on Feb. 13.

Phoenix police began its investigation the next day and requested that school district suspend its own internal investigation, according to a statement by district spokeswoman Becky Kelbaugh.

Bibby, a Shadow Mountain alum, has remained in his role of boys basketball coach despite the allegations and guided the school to its fourth consecutive state championship this past Saturday.

Bibby, 40, was the second overall pick in the 1998 draft and played 14 seasons in the NBA for six different teams. He also led Arizona to the NCAA championship in 1997 as a freshman.
